Which MP3 bitrate should I choose?
Bitrate decides how much data each second of MP3 uses. A higher bitrate keeps more detail and makes a bigger file. These sizes are exact for constant bitrate MP3, before a few kilobytes of header data.

For comparison, a stereo WAV at 44.1 kHz and 16 bit is about 10.6 MB per minute, or about 31.8 MB for a 3-minute track.
WAV versus MP3
A WAV file stores audio uncompressed, so it is exact but large. An MP3 is compressed by throwing away detail the format judges hard to hear. That makes files about four to eleven times smaller, but it is a one-way step: converting an MP3 back to WAV does not bring the detail back. Keep your original WAV files and use the MP3 for sharing, streaming previews and anywhere file size matters.

Is it really free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no file size limit set by this site. Very large files depend on the memory of your device.
Is my audio uploaded?
No. The conversion runs on your device inside this page. You can check this yourself by turning off your internet connection after the page has loaded and converting a file.
Which WAV files work?
Your browser reads the WAV file, so common types such as 16-bit, 24-bit and 32-bit float WAV are supported. Mono files stay mono and stereo files stay stereo. If a file has more than two channels, only the first two are converted.
What happens to high sample rates like 96 kHz?
MP3 cannot go above 48 kHz. Files at 96 kHz or 192 kHz are converted down to 48 kHz, and files at 88.2 kHz or 176.4 kHz are converted down to 44.1 kHz. Files below 32 kHz are converted up to 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz so that every bitrate above works.
Does converting reduce quality?
Yes, a little. MP3 is a lossy format. Higher bitrates lose less. Your original WAV file is never changed.
